Bad Traffic Anticipated for the Holiday Lighting Ceremony

BARNES PLACE (ATLANTA, GEORGIA) - One of the un-romantic holiday traditions: Traffic. Traffic on the evening of the Ninth-Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony, Saturday, December 1, promises to be no different. Guests are encouraged to carpool and arrive early for the lighting as the SEC Basketball Tournament begins at 8 p.m. at Phillips Arena only 2.4 miles from Barnes Place. "Every year, Saturday evening traffic combined with holiday traffic, and the Arena traffic makes the I-75/85 Connector a parking lot," said Director of Catering and Guest Relations Anthony Dornacher.

A number of guests often race to make it to the Lighting, so the Social Secretary at Barnes Place is encouraging everyone to allow plenty of travel time and carpool. Guests can also use alternates.

  • FROM THE NORTHWEST: Exit Northside Drive from I-75 and take Northside Drive South to 14th Street. Turn right on to 14th Street.
  • FROM THE NORTHEAST: Exit "Peachtree Street" on I-85 and take the Buford Highway Connector to Spring Street, turning right on Spring Street. Take Spring Street to 14th Street, turning right on 14th Street.
  • FROM THE EAST: Tenth Street almost always flows better than 14th Street. Take 10th Street to State Street, turn right, taking State Street to 14th Street. Turn right onto 14th Street.
  • FROM THE WEST: Traffic is never bad coming from the ghetto.

The Holiday Lighting Ceremony takes place promptly at 8:05 p.m. For more information or to RSVP, direct your web browser to http://www.barnesplace.com/events/hlc2001/. Or e-mail social.secretary@barnesplace.com.
