FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 11, 2001, 11:30 p.m. Barnes Place Installs Weather Monitor IIBARNES PLACE, ATLANTA, GA--Installation of the new Davis Instruments Weather Monitor II Station at Barnes Place was completed late in the day on Saturday. The weather station monitors inside and outside temperature, wind speed and direction, wind chill, daily and accumulated precipitation, barometric pressure and trend, inside and outside humidity, and dew point. The console also tracks highs and lows for every measurement, and records the time and date. Nelson B., Home Park - Atlanta, GA, assisted Director of Ambiance and Entertainment Timothy State with the installation process. "Other people put weather vanes on their roof with horses and stuff like that. Barnes Place has a satellite looking thing that I think is consistent with their effort to enhance ambiance by pushing existing technologies to their limit," said Nelson. Of course, the installation of Weather Monitor II is just the beginning to a better understanding of the dynamic atmospheric conditions at Barnes Place. State commented: "I've always said, 'You give a man a fish, and you've fed him for a day. You teach a man to interpret weather, and he'll be prepared with a light jacket or umbrella for a lifetime.'" The next step will be connecting the station to a database to record data at pre-selected intervals. Once a history is collected, weather trends can be studied and analyzed. "The trends and history will really allow us to better understand the range of conditions we experience at Barnes Place. This is really going to help us target the best dates for functions where our guests can be most comfortable," said Co-Director State. "The last thing you want is a hot, sticky crowd." The final step is connecting the Weather Monitor II to Barnes Place.com, where the current atmospheric conditions will be uploaded every 10 minutes, allowing for people around the world to check the Barnes Place weather. Said State, "People should understand weather can bring us together. It can unite us all. It's the one thing every human has in common." The weather system is not just to increase guest comfort. "Had we had this system in place two years ago, we might have been able to predict the storm that resulted in the tragic inflatable chair massacre at Flamingo Grove," said State. "It's got potential to save lives." "Cool," said Co-Director Anthony Dornacher. "Or should I say 'hot'? How about if we check the latest data first." CURRENT CONDITIONS @ BARNES PLACE, GA ***INSIDE CONDITIONS*** Temp (Current - High - Low) Humidity: 37% ***OUTSIDE CONDITIONS*** Temp (Current - High - Low) Wind Speed: 2 to 5 m.p.h. from the SSE Wind Chill: 64 F Humidity: 44% Barometric Pressure: 30.22 inches, steady Dew Point: 40 F Precipitation: 0.00 inches Observations: The light cloud coverage should burn off as the temperature continues to rise through the day. We should see a high of about 68 F today. For the evening, we'll see increasing cloud coverage as a low pressure system begins to move into the area from the southwest. This will bring the possibility of much-needed rain as the system brings moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. --END-- |
