Timothy State

April 1998

Postcards from the Eugene, Ore., Holiday Inn Holidome were Timothy State's first experience with unsolicited writing. Shortly there after, there was the public apology along with a friend's to his junior high class mates for writing, publishing and selling Gossip Prone, a cutting edge publication with all the news that fits, not the news that fit. Since then, he's had quite a bit of practice, having completing several college level writing courses by his high school graduation, penned reams of paper during his college days, and been employed in several writing-intensive positions.

It was in high school that he began to discover his unique writing voice. A research paper he authored Disco: Staying Alive or Just Another Saturday Night Fever shed new light on Disco as a social movement, highlighting its little-known origins in the gay underground nightclubs of the late 1960s.

During his college days, Tim communicated to the campus community an altered view of his world through his weekly column in the student newspaper, "Altered State". He also served as Editor-in-Chief of the weekly Stentor, and later as Co-Editor when he was joined by a friend who was just as passionate about shaking up the sheltered and often secluded area outlined on the campus map. His consumer guide to condoms drew the most gasps of any article he published, and sent a flood of students to the Health Services Center once they realized condoms were distributed for free on campus. During his college career, Tim made his cash by handling the "Class Notes" for the college alumni magazine, and has been able to make a new baby sound fresh and exciting many times over.

Following college, Tim was the lead editor for several corporate newsletters in between his public visits as the corporate mascot, Ogden the Slipasauras. Most recently, his thoughts on his journey to Graceland, the Mecca of Meccas, on the 20th Anniversary of Elvis' passing was adapted into a short play for an Atlanta Cabaret Theater. Tim continues to write about his life experiences, which can sometimes be confused as a quest for a good story. He believes there is excitement and passion in everything, however, the challenge in life is finding it.
