 Kids in Need, a program of the Atlanta Community Food BankKids In Need is a free school supplies store serving teachers in qualifying schools throughout the metro Atlanta Area, with a mission of providing learning supplies to students whose academic success is threatened by poverty. Kids In Need is open to schools with 85 percent or greater of students in the free and reduced lunch program and/or with combined SAT scores under 900. The program currently serves elementary, middle and high schools in Atlanta Public, Fulton County, Dekalb County, Spalding County and Decatur City school systems. Kids In Need began in 1998 with a generous donation from the SHOPA Atlanta trade show. In conjunction with Kroger and Communities in Schools, a pilot distribution program was established. Kids In Need became a project of the Atlanta Community Food Bank in the fall of 2000. It is now a year-round free store for teachers. Thanks to Kids In Need teachers will no longer need to spend as much as $600/year of their own money purchasing supplies for needy children. Donation IdeasConsider filling a backpack with all the supplies one child will need for the school year. Below is a list of items children need for school. And often, children in need also need toiletries. Consider adding combs, brushes, shampoo, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to your backpack. Or, consider buying enough materials to supply a craft project for an entire classroom. Kids in Need cannot accept clothing at this time. First to Third Grade
