Barbie-Que: 40 Years of Barbie

Saturday, May 8, 1999

Barnes Place provided the Breasts, Thighs and Buns. Our guests provided a side dish and the beverage of their choice.

Despite severe thunderstorms only two days earlier, a successful Barbie-Que was held with over 40 guests in attendance. The storms reeked havoc upon the Barnes Place Gardens and the Porch at Flamingo Grove, leaving two plastic lawn flamingos dead. (See the Barnes Place Press Release with all the details of the tragedy prior to the event.)

Flamingo MemorialFlamingo EggsMany manhours were invested in the clean up after the storm. The clean up was completed just hours before the function. A wreath with flamingo feathers marked the spot where an inflatable chair smashed the two grazing flamingos to their death. The tragedy was on the mind off all guests attending. Event guest, Glen provided a vigil candle, and guests Jennifer and Nelson presented two flamingo eggs to Barnes Place, and so, the bittersweet cycle of life begins again.
