University of Virginia’s Associate Professor of Psychology Jonathan Haidt has some very thought-provoking ideas on
why people vote Republican. He contemplates the foundation of a moral society, and that it’s more than just how we treat each other (what the Democrats focus on). But it’s also about sustaining and supporting societal institutions (country, family) that provide a hierarchy that guarantees moral order. So while most of America is hurt by Republican policy, they actually prefer their presentation of moral clarity.
Haidt goes on to suggest that if the Democrats are going to succeed, they need to more fully embrace the full spectrum of American mural concerns.
