I've been constipated for months. With hard drive disk space, that is. I've filled a
60GB iMac and a 80GB iMac with all my photographs, music, and video. It's the video that is killing me, ever since we acquired the video camera last year.
We've been in the process of digitizing our entire music library so that we can move along the collections of CDs to free up the physical volume of space they take up in the house. In a weird sort of way, it's also making our music more accessible. We can listen to it from any computer, send it to the stereo with
AirTunes to blast it trough the house, or take it anywhere on my iPod. It appears, with our computers on every day, even most of the day, it's very easy for us to fire up music any time, whereas before, we had to actually load a CD changer, which only got changed out every six months. Of course, with the suffle feature applied to our entire library, there is music we didn't even know we had.
I finished digitizing all of my CDs a few weeks ago, and have been working on the CD collection that my Old Man brought with him before we got together a decade ago. The reality is, since we've been together, we haven't bought much music. So what we have exists from before us. I've had a knee-jerk reaction of surprise as I listen to the music I'm downloading of the man's at how similar our music taste is. But then, I remember he is my boyfriend and I do like him, so why wouldn't we have the same taste in music? I guess the surprise stems primarily from us never actively listening to music before in the entire 10 years we've been together. It's heartening to know that music brings people together.
The digitization process came to a grinding halt last week when the
iMac we're going to use for a music library indicated that it only had about 350MB left on it, and we only have about 20 CDs to go. So this accelerated our backup process.
Yesterday, we purchased a
160 GB Lacie Drive for the iMac we're using as the jukebox, and a
250 GB Lacie Drive for my desktop iMac to store my video and photo files. This also gives us plenty of room to back up the entire system. So between Backup provided by
.Mac,
iSync syncing all of the data on my computers, automatic start-up and shut down times, I'm now fully backed-up, stored, and with ample space to actually move and work again. The photography is flowing again.
To celebrate, I created a
Flickr account, and with no memory issues for the foreseeable future, I'm looking forward to snapping away on almost a daily basis.
