Meet the DesignerI.K. Bates
I.K. Bates is currently vice president of marketing for a national shopping center developer overseeing the company's marketing programs. While creating and implementing marketing, advertising and special events for more than 60 shopping centers occupies her spare time, it is her contributions to the flamingo fashion world which has made her known throughout the lawn ornamentation industry. With the 2000 Winter Season, I.K. Bates is launching, for the first time, her own line of winter wraps for the flamingo--flamingo fashions for the fowl. The line is known as the I.K.B. Collection. She has kept the 'K' in her name to give her Daddy credit where credit is due.The I.K.B. Collection is being backed by an extensive advertising campaign. The campaign features flamingos in I.K.B. fashions in natural settings with the tag line, "I.K.B. Therefore, I am." The campaign has yet to be highlighted by Advertising Age, but many behind the I.K.B. collection feel strongly once Ad Age catches wind of the fresh concept, they'll be all over it like ham on rye.
Inspired by Tragedy
Inspired by the ongoing flamingo tragedy at Barnes Place created by meteorological phenomenon, I.K. Bates worked to develop her first flamingo fashion line to help the classic ornament through Atlanta's harsh winters. While Atlanta's climate is mild compared to other regions of the country, the species of flamingo housed in the Flamingo Grove at Barnes Place is a rare upscale breed which has not been exposed to the harsh realities of a climate controlled by none-other than Mother Nature. The line made its debut at an invite-only fashion photo shoot on the Barnes Place Lawn in early November. A flock of super flamingos from My-Lawn was flown in just for the photo shoot session. The first public display of the fashions were made at the Seventh Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony.
Budding Talent Continues
Since then, the entire lawn ornamentation industry has been abuzz. Industry analysts are noting the launch of the I.K.B. Collection is the most significant advance for the Flamingo since the invention of blow-molded plastic.
I.K. Bates has other flamingo fashions in development. Flamingo fashion industry insiders are speculating a special holiday line inspired by the Nutcracker may be in development. I.K. Bates declined to comment on that notion, only saying, "The creative process cannot be rushed if perfection is expected."

Santa Fleece Leave it to I.K. Bates to turn the obvious into the unexpected. While other designers have focused on a blitz of sequined winter wonderlands spattered across their fashions, I.K. Bates has taken the classic Santa Claus look and adapted it for the modern flamingo. This is simply nothing short of brilliant. |
