BP Short to be Highlighted at Festival
Clear your calendar! "There was a Clogging", a Barnes Place Short Film, will be featured in "Short Lived! A Film Slam" at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at Echo Lounge (551 Flat Shoals Ave.) in East Atlanta.
"Short Lived!" is the gong show of film shorts, hosted by Image Film and Video, where instant gratification is the name of the game. Movies 15 minutes or less will be screened before a studio audience. Based on the audience reaction, the movie will either continue through the final frame, or be yanked. Final decisions will be made by a peanut gallery of "expert" critics, comprised of local filmmakers and artists.
"I hope people will come out to support not just the cinematic arts in general, but my art as well," said Timothy State, who directed "There was a Clogging," which has gained acclaim for highlighting the essence of clogging in North Georgia. "There is a reason they're called Thunder Thighs, and I think we captured it."
"Is it a sport? Is it an art? No. It's clogging," said Anthony Dornacher who shot the footage of the Clogging over Memorial Day weekend this past spring. State then edited together the short with only one bottle of wine, and a view of the North Georgia Mountains.
"There was a Clogging", and other shorts by State "Hot June Night" and "Super Walmart Comes to Elijay" have already received favorable responses from audiences at Mary's, a video bar and lounge in East Atlanta Village.
The winning film of the evening will receive an automatic slot in the upcoming Atlanta Film Festival. You can view a rough cut of "There was a Clogging" on the web.
