Life's Trials, Tribulations and Cloggers
Just 90 minutes north of Atlanta, there is a small community located at the heart of Gilmer County, called Ellijay. We escaped there this weekend, where life moves at a slower pace. While small, it is not void of life's tribulations. This is obvious just glancing through the weekly newspaper, where we find that methamphetamine labs are quickly taking the place of moonshine production: "According to Drug Task Force (DTF) Commander W.L. Panter, a Gilmer County deputy responded to a domestic call with a DTF agent as backup. As a search ensued around a chicken house for those involved in the domestic dispute, the DTF agent noticed objects associated with methamphetamine labs. The DTF agent and the deputy secured the scene and waited for a search warrant before beginning a search of the property."
But there is also a lot to celebrate, as Gilmer High School Valedictorian, Constance Southern, illustrated to her fellow graduates Friday night: "Gilmer High School has graduated business owners, accountants, teachers, counselors, preachers, computer whizzes, medical technologists, legal secretaries, morticians, firefighters, police officers, mothers and fathers. One graduate of Gilmer High pilots Air Force II and flies the vice president of the United States of America. I am sure there are those who have spent time in the state or federal prison system, however, we have all learned a great deal, and have a great education."
But sometimes, life's trials and wisdom are a little overbearing for a holiday weekend. Enter Cloggers to take your mind off everything. At the Blue Ridge Arts in the Park Festival, Sunday was dedicated to Clogging. We were there.
Take a peek at the amazing QuickTime iMovie. (It is 14 MB, but well worth the wait; you might just want to take up clogging.)
